These are challenging times, not just for our massage community but for the world at large. Oregon School of Massage is taking the time to recognize those hurting within the black community, and supporting today’s bold initiatives leading us toward a more equitable future.
While Oregon School of Massage is not politically affiliated, we believe the massage community has a responsibility to confront racism head-on, and work on ways to further equality and justice. We simply cannot return to the status quo, not when the status quo is so clearly broken.
Here are the facts: over 1,000 people are killed by police every year in America, and black people are three times more likely to be killed than white people. The killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade and far too many others have left our nation anguished and outraged.
While now is a time for grief and anger, it is also a time for resolve. If you want to support current actions, some fantastic organizations to donate to are the Equal Justice Initiative, National Police Accountability Project, and NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Together we can take steps and make reforms to combat police violence and systemic racism within law enforcement.
This moment can be a significant opportunity for change, if we all do our part. And one more thing to ensure your voice is heard in our democracy, is to make sure to vote in the next election.
Thank you for standing with us in the fight for racial equality.
In love and solidarity,
Oregon School of Massage
