On Friday and Saturday (May 14-15) Returning Veterans Project (RVP), a Portland-based non-profit, presented a very informative and practical training on “Working with clients who contend with PTSD issues.”

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder which can develop after exposure to any psychologically traumatic event. Along with many counselors and a few physicians, a handful of OSM massage therapy graduates learned about the physiology and psychology of extreme stress reactions and how as either a counselor or a healthcare provider to work with those conditions.

Presenters included: Ken Goldberg, MD; Shannon Pernetti, archetypal analyst; Katie Boyts, LMT, Bill Bowen, LMT; and Nora Stern, PT. Oregon School of Massage director, Ray Siderius, serves on the Somatics Committee for Returning Veterans Project. For more information about RVP go to ReturningVeterans.org

Congratulations, Ray and team, for getting the new blog up.

May this become a terrific resource to let folks know about all the good things that OSM does to promote massage and wellness in the Portland area. It’s a bit sad how much need there will be for this skill (using massage to treat PTSD) so thanks for helping to put this event together. You are a treasure. Welcome to Web 2.0!

I also love the clean lines of the layout. Nice theme!
