Quality Massage Therapy
Clients who ultimately receive massages from our graduates are considered stakeholders to be served by the Oregon School of Massage (OSM) training program. Hence, an important measure of the training received by OSM students is the quality of the massages they are learning to give, including how those massages are perceived by the client. This blog is another report from various people who have received massages in OSM student clinics…some for as long as 17 years. The seven testimonials included here were all provided during July 2012 and, combined, represent 67 years of experience receiving OSM student massages.

Student Clinic an Extraordinary Place For Massage
“ The OSM student clinic is an extraordinary place to get a massage! The students are professional, friendly, and eager to try their varied massage techniques that they have learned. Although it is a clinic, there is still privacy, and once the massage starts, you drift away to a calm and peaceful place. The clinic offers two types of massage: Swedish and Shiatsu. This gives clients a chance to try the benefits of both types of massage. Although different, both Swedish and Shiatsu massage leave me feeling both relaxed and rejuvenated at the same time. Scheduling is easy, everyone is friendly, and the price is very affordable.”

Each Student Excellent – Oregon School of Massage Must Be Doing A Fine Job
“My experience at the Oregon School of Massage has been entirely positive!  I did not know what to expect when I made my first appointments at a school of massage.  Because the massages would be by students, would they perhaps not be as good as a massage given by a licensed, experienced, professional,  out practicing in the field?

What a wonderful surprise to find that the massages, without exception, are just as good as you can get!    Each of the students I have had has been an excellent massage therapist.  The massages I get at the school are just a little short of miraculous!  After years of appointments at the school, I have concluded that the school itself must be doing a very fine job of training its students which the only way to explain the uniformly high quality of the work the students do.

I had a very painful issue with my sciatic nerve a couple of years ago.  I can’t be sure how big a  part massage played in the healing process since I also had physical therapy, but I believe that it helped quite a bit.  And perhaps the continued massages contribute to the fact that I have not had a recurrence of the problem with my sciatic nerve, a problem which I am told often does reoccur.

I had never heard of a shiatsu massage until I made an appointment for one at the OSM.  At first, I wasn’t sure I liked the shiatsu as well as swedish, but I have grown to enjoy the shiatsu massage very very much. “

Introduction To Shiatsu Amazing
“Finding the Oregon School of Massage Student Clinic was one of my greatest Portland finds since moving here.  The students are professional and eager for feedback to better their skills.  The massages are as good, if not better, than most I have received at professional salons.  My introduction to Shiatsu massage at the school was amazing.  This is a massage that most people have never heard of; you show up in comfortable clothing to be gently rocked and pressure points are used. It is a more active participation massage but I feel more energized and stretched than with the Swedish.  Don’t get me wrong, I still go to the Swedish massages for relaxing and calming.  The combination is great in any given month.  I make sure I call in when the appointment schedule opens so that I have the best chance at getting the times that work best for me.

I have been told by health professionals that I should try to make massage a regular part of my health care plan, but most massages cost too much for me to make it more regular than a quarterly appointment.  With the massage school I can go at least monthly, if not twice a month and I have seen the difference this makes.  I highly recommend everyone check out the school for yourself.  You get a great massage and the students get the practice they need to go out and become licensed therapists.  Who knows, you might even find someone to follow after they graduate.”

Clinic Teachers Are Awesome
“I started visiting the Oregon School of Massage clinic in 2003. Little did I know that 9 years later, I’d still be participating in the student clinic massages. That is due to that fact that the clinic staff is always nice & professional.  I’m still amazed at how each student is different in their approach & massage techniques. The students are great at making me feel very comfortable and in turn I am able to relax in their presence. To be able to feel that way with strangers is a statement of how well they are taught and that they believe in what they are doing. I love both the Swedish & Shiatsu clinics. I think all the teachers are awesome instructors (especially Rich & Wendy).

Being able to continue visiting the clinic has become an overall important part of my therapeutic health & well-being.  “

I’m Thrilled When I See I Have An Appointment
When I turn a page in my desk diary and see I have a massage at OSM that week I’m thrilled. At least part of my week is guaranteed to be good. The people are delightful, scheduling easy and why they call the masseuses/masseurs “students” I have no idea, they seem very skilled to me. Whether it’s Swedish or Shiatsu the entire experience is a treat. Sometimes I need help in undoing the damage I inflict on my poor body, other times I ask to be sent into bliss and be gently woken when they are finished. Whatever my needs are they have always been met and you can’t beat the price $35 for about an hour (no tipping allowed) one of the best deals in Portland.

17 Years Of Great Massages
David and Gracie have been receiving student massage at Oregon School of Massage for over 17 years.  “We remember when it was only $20.00 to get a massage! However it is still a great deal at $35.00. We have experienced both the Swedish and the Shiatsu massages they offer and continue to enjoy our “pampered time” at the school.  In 17 years I think I have only had three massages I was not happy with. We will continue to go to this great student clinic.

Fantastic to hear from these very pleased clients! I love that OSM is focused on Shiatsu as my school in Arizona was as well. It is an amazing type of bodywork and you just don’t find many schools that focus on it.
I plan to make an appointment to receive a Shiatsu treatment ASAP! I look forward to reading more about the OSM clinic in the future.
