Dear OSM,

I am SO BUSY!
Sorry it has taken me so long to tell you about my move, though, as I’m sure you’ll be happy
to hear, not too sorry because the reason is I have been SO BUSY in my
practice! It never, in my wildest dreams, occurred to me that I would
be able to practice full time like this less than a year out of
school. I know I owe it to the quality of the program at OSM. For
that, I thank you. Following is my draft, You’ll have to excuse the
length. I was an English major once 🙂

Didn’t Make it to North Carolina
We were planning to move to North Carolina when we left Portland,
which is why I got my license there. On the way to Chapel Hill, we
stopped in Wyoming to see the birth of my sister-in-law’s first child.
After spending about a month here, we both decided that we felt called
to stay. It was unexpected and, I’d go as far to say shocking, to both
of us; however, it has proved both personally and professionally a
wise decision.

Pinedale, Wyoming is now home
Now we are living and working in Pinedale, WY, a town with around 1500
people in it, located 77 miles southeast of Jackson Hole in the heart
of the Wind River Mountains.

Pinedale a great place to do massage
What I notice about this community and the role of massage here is
surprising to me. I was not expecting to find the diversity of clients
that I have here or the openness to a more alternative healing method.

The excitement and respect that I see in the expression of people once
I tell them my profession is a testament to the community’s attitude
towards massage. Coming from Portland, where therapists are a dime a
dozen and the majority of people are drawn to an alternative
lifestyle, to a small oil field town where I am the only full time
practitioner, has been a culture shock for sure, but the reception
that I have received has been warm and supportive.

My OSM education has served me well.
As there is no licensure in the state of Wyoming, having a such a high
level of education backing me has not only made me feel more
confident, but made me more competitive as well. I am so thankful for
the knowledge I have.

While in school at OSM, I learned much valuable information. The most
important lesson has proved time and again my self-confidence that I
feel was instilled in my by my professors and their incomparable
teachings. Every one of them not only taught me the material I needed
to pass the MBLEX with flying colors, but also insightful and personal
lessons that have made me a compassionate, patient, knowledgeable
therapist. Daily in my practice, I remember a moment from school that
gets me through a hard situation or words of patience from a teacher
when I was frustrated with myself for not “getting it” faster. Without
the tools they gave me in my belt, I would not feel equipped to do
what I am doing. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss being close to
OSM.

I hope all is well with you,
Margaret West, NC LMBT #11858
