And here’s a good “reminder” resource for Oregon walkers

by Ray Siderius at OSM

I like to walk, jog, dance, swim, play tennis, and do at least a dozen other sorts of activity. Even though I do some of those regularly I appreciate, and frequently am inspired to vary my routine, when I see/hear “good reminders.” Recently a new one came my way: “Walkabout, Walking & Hiking for Fitness.” This bimonthly magazine published in Portland has brief walk-related articles about conditioning, dealing with aches and pains, nutrition, gear (e.g., walking poles), and walking events.

For me,  “good reminders” in the Nov-Dec 2012 issue were lovely pictures of walking/hiking areas…which, along with the bright sunshine, inspired me to do a brisk walk in a different part of SW Portland this weekend.

The magazine is free; you can also subscribe for $14.95 a year. You can pickup copies at OSM Portland, on the literature stand by the front desk. To locate other distribution sites go to Walkabout’s website at: www.walkaboutmag.com. I think this is a good resource for the active Oregonian.

Walking and Massage
It also occurs to me that over half of Oregon’s three million residents are walkers and, therefore, potential massage clients (which undoubtedly many of them already are). While many of us know how/why massage could be a significant contributor to the wellness of walkers I can’s say I’ve seen much written about that. Do you have some stories about massage from the perspective of either the walker or being the walker’s massage therapist? Send them to me here at Oregon School of Massage (rs@oregonschoolofmassage.com); I may be able to assist you getting some publicity for the story. Who knows…that might be a “good reminder” for some walker-reader to get a massage.
